Bio

Doug grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, where he developed a fondness for big questions, good views, and the occasional winding path. He earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania and now brings that curiosity into the classroom as the instructor for Markets & Morality (PHIL 0430), a First Year Seminar exploring the relationship between economic life and ethical values.

As an advisor, Doug enjoys helping students connect the dots between their academic interests, their values, and the lives they want to build—no philosophy degree required. Around campus, he’s often working or reading in a few favorite spots: the library in the Penn Museum, the Kislak Center, or the patio behind the Women’s Center, ideally with decent weather and a strong cup of coffee nearby.
