Anne Albert
Dr. Anne Oravetz Albert is the Director of Operations and Communications in the College of Arts and Sciences. In this role she oversees the strategic messaging of the College as well as day to day media and communications projects; College events, programs, and awards; and College Office operations, budgeting, and finances. She also contributes to various initiatives of College Academic Affairs including faculty committees such as the Committee on Undergraduate Education, the College AI Working Group, the Undergraduate Council, and the College Classroom Charter Subcommittee.
Anne received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania Department of History in 2008 and teaches regularly in history and Jewish studies, most recently a seminar on comparative religious conversion and a survey course on medieval and early modern Jewish culture.
Her scholarship focuses on early modern Jewish history, with interests in Jewish-Christian relations, mysticism and messianism, political philosophy, the history of ideas, and approaches to religion. Publications include the award-winning Jewish Politics in Spinoza’s Amsterdam, as well as Frontiers of Jewish Scholarship: Expanding Origins, Transcending Borders (coedited with Noah S. Gerber and Michael A. Meyer) and various articles. Her work has been supported by the Mellon Foundation, the Foundation for Jewish Culture, and the American Association of University Women, and she was a Fulbright scholar in the Netherlands.
Before coming to the College she served for a decade as the Klatt Family Director for Public Programs at Penn’s Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies. She has also taught at Brown University, Swarthmore College, and Bryn Mawr College. She earned her BA in the History of Religion at Reed College, where she also studied mathematics and linguistics.
In her spare time, Anne can be found tending her urban backyard flower garden, training for her next marathon, or tolerating the antics of two very fluffy cats. The fastest ways to her heart are through gluten-free cookies, gen-Z humor, and well-proofed prose.
