CAMS: Mentoring Meal with Jason Butler C'09, Senior VP of Global Content Planning & Programming, HBO & HBO Max

Jason Butler currently serves as Senior Vice President of Global Content Planning and Programming at HBO & HBO Max, managing the holistic content offering planning for the premium TV service and global streaming platform across 125+ countries and territories worldwide.  

Butler and his global team spearhead the upcoming HBO original programming long-term rollout plan and release calendar, drive the programming of acquired movies and series for HBO & HBO Max, lead the planning HBO & HBO Max’s Pay-1 theatrical release slate and calendar including new films from Warner Bros., A24, and other third-party film studios, and manage the scheduling and content planning operations for all programming available on HBO & HBO Max across the U.S., EMEA, LatAm, and APAC. 

Butler was responsible for bringing the Canadian breakout Crave Original series Heated Rivalry to HBO & HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys as a strategic series acquisition for HBO Max in the U.S. and around the globe. The show - which won Best New TV Series at the 2026 GLAAD Awards - has since emerged as the #1 acquired series in HBO Max history, more than doubling its viewership since the season finale. 

Prior to joining HBO, Butler previously held positions at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), The Gersh Agency, and Roundabout Theater Company.  

Butler graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude as a Benjamin Franklin Scholar and Jane Wallace Award winner from The University of Pennsylvania with a double major in Communications and Theater Studies.  During his time at Penn, Butler participated as a producer, director, writer, actor, and singer in a variety of performing arts organizations on campus including Penn Players, Penn Singers, Quadramics, and Front Row Theater Company.
