Enmanuel Martínez

Dr. Enmanuel Martínez was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Camden, New Jersey. He earned his B.A. in Comparative Literature and Latin American and Latinx Studies from the Penn’s College of Arts & Sciences in 2011. As an undergraduate, he participated in the Africana Studies Summer Institute, the Pre-First-Year Program, Penn College Achievement Program, McNair Scholars Program, Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, and Cipactli, Penn's Latinx Honor Society. He also served as a work-study student in Penn's LGBT Center and the Office of the President.

Dr. Martínez earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University, where his scholarship was recognized through nationally competitive fellowships, including the Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship and the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education Graduate Fellows Program. While at Rutgers, he taught courses in Comparative Literature, Latinx Literature and Culture, and Expository Writing and mentored undergraduate scholars and student-athletes.

He returned to Penn in 2021 as a Vice Provost for Student Engagement Postdoctoral Fellow. Since then, he has served in several student-facing roles across Penn, including as a College of Arts & Sciences Pre-Major Advisor, Penn College Achievement Program Academic Counselor, and Penn First Plus Associate Director for Scholarly and Professional Development. In summer 2026, he joined the College Office as an Assistant Dean for Advising.

Drawing on his background as a first-generation and limited-income college student and his experience as a scholar, educator, and academic advisor, Dr. Martínez is committed to helping all students navigate the intellectual, personal, and professional opportunities of a liberal arts education while pursuing lives of purpose and impact.
