Molly McGlone

Molly McGlone is the Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences.  In her administrative role, Molly works with amazing and dedicated staff, faculty, and students to support student success, shape academic policy, and support instructors to reflect on the current challenges of the contemporary moment by encouraging responsive and innovative teaching strategies. Molly advocates for sustainable community engagement in the arts, supports academically based community service experiences for Penn students, and facilitates efforts to make STEM learning as innovative and inclusive as possible.

Dr. McGlone earned her doctorate in musicology from the University of Wisconsin, where she also served as assistant director of the letters and science honors program for three years. Her tenure at Penn’s College of Arts & Sciences began in 2010 as assistant dean for academic advising and as a faculty fellow at Fisher Hassenfeld College House.  She moved into the role of deputy dean of undergraduate studies in the Spring of 2025.

Molly has taught the Urbs 4000 Senior Seminar course in the past and currently teaches a first year seminar, Urbs/Musc 0180A/B Music in Urban Spaces, which is a year-long academically based community service course that partners with music and theater teachers in West Philadelphia neighborhood public schools.  

Her teaching and research interests include the role of music and the arts in building, sustaining, and developing diverse communities; the long-term impact of structural inequalities in educational spaces including K-12 and postsecondary educational institutions; and leveraging new technologies to help higher education match faculty research and teaching interests to student needs that build life long learners and center efforts to build on community-based knowledge production.
