Niel McDowell
Associate Director of Academic Advising and Assistant Dean for Advising, Advisor for Language Requirement Substitution.
Bio
Niel McDowell came to Penn in 1991 for a graduate program and liked it so much he decided to stick around for a while. In 1998, having earned his PhD in German Language and Literature, he was lucky enough to begin working as an Assistant Dean for Advising in the College Office, where he’s been ever since. He advises students on every aspect of the College’s curriculum and academic opportunities, and he calculates that he’s seen thousands of students in his office over the years.
In his free time, Niel explores the city of Philadelphia, his adoptive home, cycles, and follows the local teams, sometimes joyously, sometimes through clenched teeth.
